Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco/Colima, Autlan type, post-Classic era, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. An endearing statue of a mother cradling her infant in her arms. Both mother and child look out at the viewer with nicely incised open eyes and slightly open mouths as if engaged in baby talk. The mother is adorned with applied and incised ornaments - a headband tied in a bow at the top, a beaded necklace, large ear ornaments, armlets, and a skirt over her ample hips with a sash falling down her right side. A lovely piece that demonstrates maternal love. Size: 6.375" H (16.2 cm); 7.375" H (18.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
