Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu / Inca culture, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A sling known as a "honda" made from interwoven fibers of a camelid (alpaca or llama) fibers dyed in hues of brown, beige, and crimson. The long straps are braided with a zigzagging pattern of alternating brown and beige that narrow halfway to a different weave of beige and come to a looped terminal with a checker pattern. The central projectile band is intentionally split down the center for holding stones or other intimidating items and has crimson threads interwoven at the edges. Slings were used for warfare and hunting, and when not serving those purposes, could be used as a rope or belt to proudly display the beautiful craftsmanship of the versatile weapon!
