Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero/Mezcala culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. One large greenstone earspool/ear plug with a characteristically flared flat trumpet shape and two perforations to either side of the protruding interior periphery. The stone presents inherently beautiful mottled sage green and white hues with black mineral deposits. Ancient Mesoamericans believed that ears were the conduits for spiritual energy, and so ear ornaments like this one took on significant meaning. In addition, some scholars have argued that the stretching of earlobes may have been a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood. Size: 3.25" in diameter (8.3 cm)
