Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Olmec culture, 12th - 9th c. BCE. One of the finest examples of an Olmec baby face we have seen! Boasts characteristically downturned mouth, almond-shaped eyes with remarkable lifelike expression, chubby cheeks, elongated ears, oversized head that appears to show cranial deformation but rather reveals the custom of shaping infants' heads, and traditional Olmec asymmetrical hairstyle. Fabulous example with a custom stand! ~1-3/4"L x 2"W x 2"D

Provenance: Ex- Adeon Gallery, Chicago, acquired prior to 1970
