Pre-Columbian, Peru, Mexico & Ecuador, ca. 300 BCE to 1500 CE. A collection of pottery spindle whorls and textile fragments. Five larger whorls are from Mexico, while the smallest example from Ecuador's Manteno culture features a feline motif. The Peruvian textile fragments include a Chancay supplementary weft figure on an open gauze ground and a band with geometric and abstract animal forms, woven from camelid wool and cotton. Size of textile: 4.5" L x 1" W (11.4 cm x 2.5 cm); largest whorl: 1.3" W (3.3 cm)
Provenance: private Thousand Oaks, California, USA collection, acquired 1970s to 2000s
