Description:

Pre-Columbian, South America, Border of Bolivia and Peru, Tiwanaku culture, ca. 900 CE. The Tiwanaku culture is regarded as one of the most important civilizations prior to the Inca empire and its influence manifests on much of the ceramic works created in the ancient Andes. This kero or drinking vessel features two lively images of llamas separated by mountain plants of the Andes traditionally used to make tea in the upper register - perhaps tea that was drunk from this vessel. The lower register is comprised a series of atlatl spears in flight. All is painted in red, white, cream, and charcoal grey. 5 1/2"T x 5 1/4"D at widest.
