Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 to 200 BCE. A hand-built pottery sculpture of a standing female presenting bulbous legs, wide hips, a large navel / vent hole, pinched breasts, and outstretched nubbin arms. She gazes forth from elongated, coffee bean-shaped eyes beneath a slightly raised brow bone, all above a petite nose, and impressed mouth. Applied bands that form a coiffure or headdress caps her head- lappets or locks ending just above a pair of lengthy, pierced ears. The encrustations on this piece are from modern glass that fused onto the pottery surface due to a fire - purportedly the glass case the figure was stored in melted. Despite this unfortunate "refiring" the figure is well preserved! Size: 5" L x 2" W x 12" H (12.7 cm x 5.1 cm x 30.5 cm)
