Description:

North Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, Wailuku, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. A pair of hand-carved stone projectiles known as "ma'a," for hurling from a hand-wielded sling. Both stones exhibit an ovoid form with tapered tips, and one is of a substantially larger size than the other. The lightweight nature of the stones means they could have been flung further distances with less effort and would have been invaluable to native Hawaiian warriors. Size: 3" L x 2.25" Diameter (7.6 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, before 2010
