Description:

China, 100-200 million years ago. Dinosaur eggs are rare and new finds of doublets are seldom found. They have been found in approximately 200 sites around the world, the majority in Asia and particularly in China. The first were found in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. They are found in terrestrial, that is non-marine, rocks of the Cretaceous Age. The first real discovery was by a Frenchman in 1859 and the eggs were thought to be those of large birds. With additional scholarship in the early 1900's, these large eggs were discovered to be those of dinosaurs. Paleontologists have been happily studying them ever since. 13" (33 cm) x 6" (15 cm).
