Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Colorado and Arizona, Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan, ca. 1050 to 1150 CE. A hand-built pottery mug with a tapering cylindrical body, a circular opening, and a wide strap handle. The white-slipped vessel is densely decorated with black-painted linear motifs with geometric hourglass shapes on the handle. Mugs like this one were made from a gray or white clay slip then overpainted with a black pigment made from carbon. These were made by women who lived in cliff dwellings like those seen at Mesa Verde National Park. A fine example of the black-on-white tradition! Size: 4.5" W x 3.75" H (11.4 cm x 9.5 cm)
