Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 500 to 1300 CE. A rare and relatively well preserved single ancient sandal sole woven from yucca plant fronds! Yucca leaves were used either whole, split, or separated, and sometimes they were shredded and spun into cordage, which could then be woven into a whole shoe with straps. This is an unusual glimpse into ancient footwear since organic material, such as this, often disintegrates long before discovery! Size of shoe: 11" L x 4" W (27.9 cm x 10.2 cm); frame: 12.5" L x 8.5" W (31.8 cm x 21.6 cm)
