Description:

North Africa, Upper Cretaceous, ca. 80 to 66 million years ago. A fossilized mosasaur skull with articulated jaws and teeth, likely from a juvenile individual. The elongated snout and hinged jaws are lined with sharp conical teeth, with additional pterygoid teeth visible along the palate that aided in gripping prey. These formidable marine reptiles possessed streamlined bodies, laterally flattened tails, and paddle-like limbs, moving through warm shallow seas in pursuit of fish, sharks, and other prey. During the Late Cretaceous they achieved a broad global distribution across ancient oceans and inland seaways. Size: 9.5" L x 3.5" W (24.1 cm x 8.9 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand.
