Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A remarkably large muneca fringe mantle woven from natural camelid (llama or alpaca) yarn and presenting 27 muneca (Spanish for doll) figures representing trophy heads, each with long sweeping brown hair and stylized bodies of varying hues including red, blue, gold, green, and brown that present wonderful step motifs across their torsos. Look closely and you will see that the munecas seem to be depicted with raised hands! The mantle is mounted on black, museum-quality linen. Size: textile measures 45" W x 6" H (114.3 cm x 15.2 cm); 63" W x 17.75" H (160 cm x 45.1 cm) including black linen backing.
