Description:

Egypt, ca. 400 - 30 BCE. Carved wood canopic jar lid depicting the falcon head of Qebehsenuef who represents one of the Four Sons of Horus. In ancient Egyptian funerary practices, this specific deity was responsible for protecting the intestines of the deceased. Qebehsenuef, whose name means "he who refreshes his brothers," was typically associated with the west and protected by the goddess Serqet. Examples of objects from The McFadden Collection have been exhibited at Drexel University and Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, Allentown Art Museum, Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, and elsewhere in the United States and around the world. Drexel is currently hosting her exhibition “Modern Ritual: The Art of Mary McFadden.”. Size: 5.75”H x 4.75”W (14.6 x 12.1cm).
