Description:

Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A superb matched pair of ancient gold bracelets from Ptolemaic Egypt, each composed of a rounded tubular band of high-karat gold and secured by an elegant integrated clasp. The terminals are skillfully wrapped in multiple coils of fine gold wire, concealing a hook-and-eye mechanism designed for a seamless and secure fit. The smooth, minimalist form reflects Hellenistic aesthetics, while the coiling technique and construction are deeply rooted in Egyptian goldsmithing traditions. This understated yet refined pair would have adorned a person of elevated status, bridging functional innovation with classical beauty. Each approximately the same size: 2.75" W x 2.25" H (7 cm x 5.7 cm). 22K gold, 98.41 grams total.

Made out of solid gold wire and thick gold sheet. The body of the bracelets probably filled in antiquity with bitumen or plaster to protect from damage.
