Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1303 BCE. A hand-built redware amphora shaped from marl clay covered in russet pigment. The apple-shaped body rests atop a planar foot and has an arching handle on either side of the shoulder. The tall neck rises to a thick, overhanging rim that perhaps once accommodated a lid. Inside the neck is a petite area of white pigment bearing red-painted linear motifs; this indicates Cypriot influence in decorative choice. Size: 4.8" W x 5.5" H (12.2 cm x 14 cm)
