Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 1558 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet and statuette of Thoth in baboon form, the god of writing, accounting, and other intellectual pursuits. Thoth is shown facign forward and seated atop an integral rectangular base wearing a solar disc crown framed by a crescent moon / cow horns. A suspension loop is positioned on the verso of the head and the faience is glazed in a brilliant turquoise hue. Size: 0.5" W x 2" H (1.3 cm x 5.1 cm)
