Description:

Western Europe, Germany / Netherlands, ca. early to mid 16th century CE. A beautiful iron rondel dagger or "landsknecht." The long double edged blade runs to a pointed rectangular guard. The tang extends through the handle, and is covered by two sections of wood, a central piece of iron, and the signature round pommel, where the name "rondel" derives from. A brass floral-shaped rivet decorates the center of the pommel. Knights used these long daggers to jab at the exposed areas; armor joints or visor slits, and they were popular sidearms in warfare or jousts. This rondel is crafted with decorative elements, but designed as a weapon that probably saw action and combat. Size: 12.75" L (32.4 cm)
