Description:

Central Europe, Northeastern Italy, Venice, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. A fabulous stamp seal cast from 95% sterling silver. The elegant handle loop is supported by a baluster-form stem upon the flared stamp face, and the outer edge of the seal is scalloped. The face is intricate with a central bird within a circle that has a legend surrounding. A seal like this would have likely belonged to a nobleman and may have contained a motto or name. The script used is indecipherable, but the markings are clear when stamped into putty. Size: 0.6" Diameter x 1" H (1.5 cm x 2.5 cm); silver quality: 95%; weight: 6.8 grams

Provenance: private Boynton Beach, Florida, USA collection; ex-Peter Szuhay collection, London, UK
