Description:

Scotland, 16th century CE. This is a halberd head with a fine patina. There is a faint maker's mark on the piece. The halberd is a two-handed pole weapon consisting of an axe-head topped with a spike that became prominent in the 14th and 15th centuries and was used by various armies throughout Europe until the late 1700s. This piece came from a collector in Edinburgh; it was hung in a Georgian home, where it was most likely a trophy by the English who lived in the stately manors in that city after the Scots were banned from having weapons after the Battle of Culloden (1746). This is why it is in such excellent condition. Size: 21.25" L x 4.25" W (54 cm x 10.8 cm).
