Native American, Northwest Coast, Vancouver Island, Canada, Nootka peoples, ca. 4th quarter 19th century CE. Superb carved wooden mask of native cedar. Broadly defined facial features with open, downturned mouth, raised cheeks, recessed eyes, these with added abalone shell. He wears a triple-animal headdress with beaver at the center flanked by wolf to each side. Additional abalone shell highlights the headdress along with added deep red pigmentation. Size: 8" W x 12.25" H (20.3 cm x 31.1 cm); 18.5" H (47 cm) on included custom stand.
