Description:

Native American, North America, northern Arizona, north of Flagstaff, ca. 1275-1400 CE. Jeddito Black-on-Orange was the first of a long line of Hopi yellow wares made from clay that ranges from yellow to orange, in this case orange. This very rare piece was constructed via the coil-and-scrape technique, painted with manganese-based on bright red slip, and fired in an oxidizing atmosphere. The form boasts a striking volume that gently transitions from spherical body to finely attenuated neck and turned rim. Painted stepped details add interest to the geometric design program. 6-1/8"H x 7-1/4"D at widest point
