Description:

Assyrian, Bronze Age, ca. 1000 BCE. This is a gorgeous grey-green serpentine cosmetic dish with two delicately detailed faces, one bearded and one either female or youthful male, and two owl-like faces forming the legs. A small dish like this probably would have been used to hold cosmetics. Based on ancient evidence, we believe that the Assyrian concept of feminine beauty involved cosmetically enhanced dark eyes; a small dish like this probably held something used to create that effect. It may have once had an ivory lid. Size: 2" W x 1" H (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm)
