Byzantine Empire, Leontius, ca. 695 to 698 CE. Gold Solidus. Obverse: D LEON PE AV, bearded bust of Leontius facing, wearing crown and loros, holding akakia in his right hand and globus cruciger with his left. Reverse: VICTORIA AVS H, in exergue, CONOB, cross potent on three steps. Very little is know about the early life of Leontius. Leontius took the name Leo when he became emperor and attempted to steer a more moderate political course than Justinian II. DOC 1a. MIB 1. SB 1330. Size: 0.75" W (1.9 cm); 4.4 grams.
