Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico and Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A pair of gourd shaped effigy vessels, both with a doubled lobed profile. One is made from a highly burnished Ramos style blackware, and the other is a warm buff hue with dark firing clouds across the surface. Squash was an invaluable crop in the Americas, and dried gourds were popular lightweight vessels, the tapering necks perfect for securing a rope handle. Size (buffware): 3.5" Diameter x 6.5" H (8.9 cm x 16.5 cm)
