Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A fascinating bichrome face vessel, the body of a bell-like shape with a tubular spout on the top and a cylindrical protrusion extending from the bottom as well, presumably for pouring libation offerings through. The jar also presents a visage comprised of applied eyes, nose, ears, and smiling lips. Adding to its appeal are the painted decorations in cream on red over the face that represent tattoos or face paint - as well as stylized geometric motifs on the lower section. Size: 5.5" in diameter x 8.75" H (14 cm x 22.2 cm)
