Description:

Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit, ca. 19th century or earlier CE. A rare wooden toy or effigy figurine carved from wood featuring delineated legs, and a rectangular torso and a head etched with circular eyes, small nose, and mouth. Such carvings may have been used as dolls or protective charms and were often dressed in parkas and clothing made of fur and leather. The Inuit have an ancient tradition - at least 1000 years long - of making dolls both as playthings and as good luck charms or guardians. Size of carving: 6" L x 1.6" W (15.2 cm x 4.1 cm); case: 8.25" L x 6.25" W (21 cm x 15.9 cm)
