Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 525 BCE. A rare amulet carved from smooth lapis lazuli that depicts Isis, the goddess of healing, magic, and love. The feminine figure presents in a striding pose with her left leg extended, her arms held firmly against her sides, and with a sheath dress that accentuates her form. Atop her head is her signature throne-shaped headdress. The use of lapis lazuli to carve an amulet of Isis likely stems from its chromatic relation to the sky and the Nile River, which were both believed to be sources of healing and magic. Size: 0.34" L x 0.24" W x 1" H (0.9 cm x 0.6 cm x 2.5 cm); 1.85" H (4.7 cm) on included custom stand.
