Description:

Ancient Egypt, late Predynastic to Early Dynastic Period, ca. 3000 to 2500 BCE. A gorgeous mace head carved from creamy white alabaster with quartzite inclusions. The piriform body has a rounded shoulder which gradually tapers to a drilled base, and the top smooths out to a lightly-rounded profile. Atop the mace head is the depiction of a couchant lion in high relief with extended front paws, back legs folded to one side, and a sinuous tail. Though the head is missing, the size of the body suggests the head would have been quite large. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.625" W x 3.125" H (6.7 cm x 7.9 cm); 4.875" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand.
