Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 18th to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 664 BCE. A rare anthropomorphic bust formed from faience that is covered in lustrous, turquoise-hued glaze. The composition exhibits minimalist facial features including a raised nose and black-painted eyes and brows, and the contiguous base is sloped towards the front. Unusual to most Egyptian busts like this is the inclusion of a leopard pelt atop the head - with neck and paws draped around the brow - bearing black-painted spots to delineate the specific animal. Leopard pelts were typically only worn by astronomers or specific types of priests. This artifact may have also been used as a game piece. Size: 1.21" L x 1.23" W x 1.99" H (3.1 cm x 3.1 cm x 5.1 cm); 2.95" H (7.5 cm) on included custom stand.
