Description:

Ancient Egypt, Neolithic to Predynastic, Naqada I to II period, ca. 7500 to 3700 BCE. A hand-knapped flint spear head or blade, percussion flaked from a brown stone. Percussion flaking was used to shape this triangular blade by striking with a hammerstone or other tool to carefully serrate the edges. These petite serrations are painstakingly made, and demonstrate the skill and control needed to shape such a seemingly simple form. Size: 3.75" L x 1.75" W (9.5 cm x 4.4 cm); 4.65" H (11.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private Towaco, New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Sands of Time Ancient Art, Washington DC, USA; de-accessioned by Heckscher Museum of Art, Huntington, New York, USA, 2012; ex-Colonel Robert de Rustahaell F.R.G.S collection, acquired prior to 1909
