Description:

Egyptian, New Kingdom, ca. 1500 BCE. A lovely hand-built polychrome alabastron, so-named because most ancient vessels that assumed this form were carved from alabaster. The pottery vessel presents a classic elongated, round-bottomed form with nubbin handles, a tapering shoulder, and a wide flat rim. Ample traces of the original decoration in brown umber, russet red, and slate blue pigmentation still grace the exterior walls. A lovely vessel, most likely used to store cosmetics or perfumed oils. Size: 1.875" in diameter at widest point x 6.5" H (4.8 cm x 16.5 cm); 7.25" H (18.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private F.B. collection, Thuringia, Germany, acquired around 1980
