Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A handbuilt terracotta figure, sitting with her legs crossed, one hand over her stomach, the other upon her right knee. Though topless, she does wear a skirt and banded headdress. What's more, her pointy ears are pierced and most likely once held attractive ornaments. The sculptor also delineated a lovely visage comprised of ovoid eyes, a protruding nose, and slightly parted lips. The surface is red and buff and liberally covered with manganese deposits. A lovely example from this shaft tomb culture. Size: 7.75" H (19.7 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
