Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru to Bolivia, Inca, ca. 1400 to 1500 CE. A very rare example of Inca weaponry! Called a bola or Ayllo, this heavy copper weapon would be tied to the end of a rope and swung with great velocity. It could take down a large animal, or a Spaniard wearing armor. Solid cast copper with single looping ring at base and dog or jaguar(?) in high relief on each end, small protruding nodes to the side which would create additional damage upon contact. Delightful and yet deadly! Custom Stand. Size: 2.875" W x 2.125" H (7.3 cm x 5.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex Boston, MA collection acquired before 1975
