Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. A large terracotta ocarina in the form of an ear of corn, incised with a cross-hatched pattern to delineate the individual kernels. In ancient Peru, corn was not the staple food stuff that it was in Mesoamerica; however, it was used to make chicha beer and, possibly, a stronger hallucinogenic brew when combined with cactus juice. The ocarina is also furnished with tone and blow holes and works quite well. Size: 2.875" L x 1.625" in diameter (7.3 cm x 4.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-Leonard Lyle Dees collection, Topeka, Kansas, USA, acquired 1950 to 1970
