Description:

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Islamic, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A mold-blown opaque glass bottle of a fabulous blue-green hue. The vessel has a slight concave base with a smooth pontil scar, a rectangular body with four even sides, a lightly slanted shoulder which dramatically tapers to a slender neck, and a thickened rim with a petite mouth. Each of the four sides bears a pattern-molded inscription, though age and fading have rendered the script illegible. Thick areas of dark blue and purple iridescence coat the majority of the exterior, and scattered areas of fiery, rainbow-hued iridescence present hues of ruby, citrine, emerald, sapphire, and amethyst. A gorgeous example replete with a sturdy construction and sophisticated presentation. Size: 2.1" W x 4.875" H (5.3 cm x 12.4 cm).
