Description:

Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 11th to 12th Dynasty, ca. 2030 to 1640 BCE. Wow! An incredibly preserved wooden rudder from a model of a funerary boat, painted a deep, earthy red. During the Old Kingdom, tombs had limestone figures depicting everyday activities like preparing food; during the First Intermediate Period and Middle Kingdom, these figures started to be made from wood, a cheaper, easier to manufacture material. Models like these replicated the painted scenes on tomb walls, made to assist the deceased on their journey through the afterlife. Size: 2.3" W x 17.05" H (5.8 cm x 43.3 cm); 12.9" H (32.8 cm) on included custom stand.
