Lot 129
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabiculture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A carved stone head in the round, made of a grey volcanic stone, with a prominent nose surrounded by highly symmetrical features, including ears decorated with some kind of ear spools. The figure wears some kind of skull cap or has a very flat hair style. Most of what survives from the Jamacoaque, who lived along the coast, is their expressive and unique pottery; it is rare to find stone artwork. The features of this piece are very similar to those from their pottery figures. Size: 4.75" L x 3.8" W x 5.5" H (12.1 cm x 9.7 cm x 14 cm)
