Description:

Ordos, late 1st millennium BCE to early 1st millennium CE. Heavy cast bronze votive reclining bull, with his legs folded, having large curved segmented horns, his snout held against his chest and having pointed perked ears. Retains most of the original heavy gilt surface. A rare and beautiful example. Ordos bronzes feature animals and were found mostly in Inner Mongolia. They were the earliest, and most widely found in the Ordos area, hence their name. Size: 2.63”L x 1.25”H (6.7 x 3.2cm).

Provenance: Connecticut collection. Ex. Wantanabe collection, Tokyo, collected prior to 1985.
