Description:

Ancient. Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A very rare cast bronze amulet depicting the god Horus, here shown as a man, with the Roman influence on the artwork clear. This is a relatively naturalistic depiction, in strong contrast to earlier Egyptian art. Horus was one of the most significant and powerful of the Egyptian deities. He played a key role in the rites of resurrection relating to the story of his parents, Isis and Osiris, and was central to the mythology surrounding Egyptian burial rites. With a loop on the back of his head for suspension. Size: 0.7" H (1.8 cm)
