Description:

Egypt, Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A small silver amulet in the form of a seated pharaoh, shown with a sun-shaped disk on his large crown and the straight false beard that indicates this figure is royalty rather than major deity (whose beards were shown curved). Although the amulet is small, the fact that it is made of silver is significant; Egypt had very limited silver supplies, meaning that the value of silver was high compared with other precious metals. Size: 1.3" H (3.3 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Prominent LA County collector who acquired these prior to 2000
