Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 2500 BCE. One of the stylized terracotta figures - generally, but not always, female - who are found near hearths and food preparation areas, as well as in burials of important personages. She has slits for eyes, mouth, and eyebrows; clear breasts, waist, and legs; no arms; and a large coiffure parted in the middle. The meaning of these rare and early figures remains a mystery. Size: 1.3" W x 4.6" H (3.3 cm x 11.7 cm)
