North America, Southern United States, Texas, Pleistocene epoch, ca. 2.6 million to 11,700 years ago. A fossilized horse (genus Equus) lower leg and hoof, discovered in Hunt County along the South Sulphur River. This specimen preserves the articulated metapodial and phalanges terminating in the hoof core, mounted upright on a custom wooden base for display. Ancient horses were abundant across North America during the Ice Age, with species such as Equus scotti roaming the Texas grasslands. Like their modern descendants, these horses were grazers, their strong limbs adapted for endurance and speed across open terrain. The Pleistocene saw many horse species thrive before their extinction in North America roughly 10,000 years ago. This piece offers a tangible connection to that vanished megafauna, with both scientific and educational value, as well as strong visual presence as a mounted display fossil. - Condition: Find site location written on the underside surface of the hoof. Professionally prepared with each bone conjoined with adhesive, some clear adhesive visible on the surface. Natural pitting and hairline fissures from fossilization. Well preserved and great presentation on a custom stand.
