Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, United States, likely Tlingit / Haida, ca. 19th century or earlier. A rare and extraordinary knife made entirely from a single piece of olive green stone. The pommel is rounded with small fins delineating the handle, and the tapering double edged blade is slightly sharpened. While this may have been a weapon, it could have also served a ritualistic function. During potlatches, dances, and other events weapons were carried as status symbols and ritual items. Size: 15" L x 2.3" W (38.1 cm x 5.8 cm)
