Description:

Mexico, Olmec culture, ca. 12th - 9th BCE. Head of pudgy ceramic Olmec baby belonging to an ancient Mesoamerican tradition that flourished during the first millenium BCE. Boasts characteristically downturned mouth, slitted eyes, and oversized head that appears to show cranial deformation but rather reveals the custom of shaping infants' heads with painted red hair and band. Nice example. ~3"L x 2"W x 1-3/4"D
