Description:

Pre-Columbian, northern highlands of Peru, Recuay culture, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A hollow-molded pottery vessel in the form of a trussed male dog with both sets of front and back legs tightly bound against its portly abdomen with lengths of rope. The globular head presents concentric circle eyes, perky ears, a conical snout with an incised mouth, and a perky nose, and the mouth of the vessel is situated behind the bald pate. Delineated genitalia and anus are situated behind the main body and the anus doubles as whistle's mouthpiece; it produces a low-frequency note when played. Covered in pale orange slip, this is an intriguing example of ancient Peruvian pottery! Size: 7.625" L x 3.375" W (19.4 cm x 8.6 cm).
