Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A striking ring formed from high-purity gold (93%, equivalent to 22 karats or higher), designed with a thick, hollow band constructed from sheet gold, shaped and molded for both durability and comfort. Set into the bezel is a finely carved carnelian intaglio depicting a male bust in profile, his features crisply rendered with a strong brow, aquiline nose, and stylized hair. The intaglio sits flush within the form-fitting bezel. Wearable and remarkably well-preserved, this piece exemplifies elite Roman craftsmanship and personal portraiture, likely serving as both adornment and a marker of identity or status. Size of intaglio: 0.5" L x 0.4" W (1.3 cm x 1 cm); band opening: 0.7" Diameter (1.8 cm); US ring size 7; gold quality: 93% (equivalent to 22K+)

Provenance: ex-T.F. Holy Lands collection, formed since the 1960s; ex-private UK collection; ex-Arthur Jacson collection, 1970s - 1980s
