Roman, late Republic to early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE; Europe, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A stunning 97.67% gold ring of wearable form with a twisted shank attached to an ovoid bezel adorned with tightly braided filigree strands. Set inside the form-fitting bezel is a hand-carved chalcedony intaglio of translucent, icy blue hues with a standing female figure on top, perhaps a goddess. The woman stands with right leg forward while holding a petite amphora by a suspension cord. Size (intaglio): 0.33" L x 0.28" W x 0.12" H (0.8 cm x 0.7 cm x 0.3 cm); (ring setting): 0.41" L x 0.82" W x 0.84" H (1 cm x 2.1 cm x 2.1 cm); gold quality: 97.67% (equivalent to 23K+); weight: 2.4 grams; US ring size: 6
