Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An interesting cast-bronze attachment depicting the head of a Nubian male emerging from a pair of large leaves. The striking countenance bears almond-shaped eyes flanking a broad nose, puffy lips above a rounded chin, tapered cheeks, and a puffy brow in front of tall ears. The coiffure is textured to emulate coarse tufts of hair, and the neckline tapers suddenly beneath the mandible. An attachment like this was perhaps used as a handle for a chest lid or even a hinged door knocker. A fine artifact covered in layers of green patina. Size: 0.7" W x 1.8" H (1.8 cm x 4.6 cm); 2.3" H (5.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
