Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fabulous and stylish necklace comprised of dozens and dozens of hand-cut, hand-polished, and hand-drilled carnelian beads of various shapes - rounded, disc, lozenge, barrel, and tubular - and hues ranging from tangerine to tomato red to ruby red - along with a black and a white quartz bead to keep it interesting - alternating with several tastefully placed gold-plated spacer beads. Strung in modern times with a modern clasp - a gorgeous and wearable example! Size (necklace): 19" L (48.3 cm); (white quartz bead): 0.25" W (0.6 cm)
